Partnach Gorge

This is the Partnach Gorge, on our way home from Oberammergau, after our stop in Ettal.  It was just as fabulous today as it was years ago when we hiked it with Dallen when he was about 2 I think.  At that time we had a back pack for him and he also enjoyed the hike.  Really it is a walk as the trail is so well maintained.  We parked the car at the old Olympic Ski Jump stadium in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is about an hour drive from Munich.  We walked from there about 25 minutes to the entrance of the gorge (a lovely, easy walk). There was a 3 EUR per person charge to walk the gorge but it is WELL WORTH IT! If you are not driving yourself, public transportation will drop you off at the Ski Jump Stadium.  The train/bus system in Germany is so reliable, clean, safe, and we used the trains and buses frequently when we lived in Germany.

Even though I had walked this before it was still one of my favorites from this trip.  It is so breathtaking. If you have a chance, go, you will not be disappointed.  Just beautiful the entire walk through the gorge, in and out of the mountain.  I wish we had time to hike up and around the top of the gorge and out that way, but it was getting toward dusk, so we needed to head back to the car.  Maybe on another trip.  Here are some photos, mostly taken by Jackson of the beautiful Partnach Gorge.

These first three photos, the one above and two below, are from the walk up to the gorge.
