Hiking Joy

What a beautiful day it was yesterday, perfect day for a hike. It has been so hot down here in the foothills, in the 90s, muggy heat. And I like the heat but it was so nice to get away from it for a while. And it was so much cooler in the Mountains.

Took the boys for a hike around a lake, with lots of friends. The hike was amazing, saw a nice beaver dam, they were hard at work. And the hike was probably 90% in the shade, 2.3 miles (or so the signs kept telling me). When we got back to the parking lot and looked out again at the lake, it was a great view, and I just kept telling myself "we walk around THAT lake".

Then all of us went just a mile up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Julian Price Park for a picnic. Just a gorgeous spot by the creek in the shade, there was a nice breeze blowing and we played in the creek, had a picnic, chatted with friends and just spent a joy-filled day all around. It was nice, we are so blessed to be here, now in this place with these people.
So nice to be in a community where each person is accepted for exactly who they are.
